There is a man by the name of Edward Phillip Robinson (aka "
Cat The Mystic") who has a company Mystic Artist Production. He runs ads from time to time on Craigslist in different states. He claims that he can help musicians get their music on the radio, book you shows, and get you signed to a record label. I sent him an email asking for more information and he responds to us send him mp3's of our music. Then, we get an email back stating that
"we get some good word from a major record label about your music for us to continue working with you <>you have to sign an agreement contract" he has sent our music to "300" independent and major record labels, {supposively} In order to continue with him we would have to sign a contract with Mystic Artist Production. I called Edward Phillip Robinson on the phone to ask a few questions and to see what else he needed, He asked for a black and white photo 10 CD's of our music and $50 to send them out to the record companies. He claims that he makes his money when you get {signed} and then he gets 15% of the deal. The money is sent through Western Union and goes to his prepaid credit card. You never hear anything from him unless you call him, if he DECIDES to answer the phone. When you try and leave a message his mail box it is always full. When he answers he plays games by being rude to you. He has hung up on me several times. He told me that he had two major labels that were interested and to call him back at a certain time the next day. I called him at (that) time, he never answered his phone all day . Also, the radio air play never happened, the shows never happened, and the record contract never came through even though he said, "They were drawing up the contract and he was waiting on them." Then, one month later, on one of the few times he answered the phone, he changed his story and said that "
we" had to do negotiations with the record company and to call him on a certain day. And
once again I called him on that day he told me to and again he did not pick up the phone. $50 dollars might not seem like a lot of money but if 50 people send him $50, that adds up to $2,500. And to me that seems like a awful lot of money to send someone who doesn't do a damn thing. His website is down as of right now the day I'm writing this. But when it was active he had four phone numbers but only one of them is working that he answers. Another one has the voice mail box that is always full and the other two are no longer in service.
THIS IS A WARNING FOR EVERYONE WHO IS CONSIDERING DOING BUSINESS WITH MYSTIC ARTIST PRODUCTIONS. THIS IS THE EXPERIENCE YOU WILL HAVE. HE HAS NO CONNECTIONS TO ANY RECORD COMPANIES AND HE DOES A FEW SHOWS OUT OF THE YEAR IN HIS TOWN OF NORTH CAROLINA. IN WHICH, ANYBODY WITH A TELEPHONE AND SOME PERSUASION CAN DO. IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO GET YOU SIGNED, HE IS NOT THE MAN TO DO THE JOB. ALL HE DOES IS BOOK LOCAL GIGS COUPLE TIMES A YEAR AND THAT'S IT. THAT'S AS FAR AS HIS CONNECTIONS GO. As of May 2, Edward Phillip Robinson has changed his operation. As seen on a craigslist posting he is now Map World Music and MYSTIC PRODUCTION Independent A & R Company. This is updated information that I have discovered.
